New Energy
There are several reasons why I would like to go. One of them is to go and see some place new and to learn the history of that place and how the people live there. Learning how people live in a different place can help you figure out how to help things become well and easier in that place. One of those is finding out how solar energy can benefit that place and the people that live and work there. One of the big reasons is it will give me the opportunity to go some were new and to take a big step out of the nest. It will let me see how the real world work and it will prepare me for the future. If I could go on this trip it will help me take a big step forward towards something I want to do and become out of the nest even more. It can help me build confidence in myself and not to be as scared to go out somewhere new without the comfort of my family by my side. Like they say take a step out of your comfort zone is a step to your future, self-confidence and into what the real world has in store for you. I am ready to try something new and to go on a new adventure.
We have done several things in New Energy and on the Green Team. Some that I wish I could have done. I have done several things some that I can remember and others that I cannot. I have participated in making small versions of Wind Turbines which was extremely fun especially the results that I learned from my own wind turbine. I also did the PG&E Solar Homes which was very interesting to create and learn in the proses. One of my favorites was the Squishy Circuits project that we did that I thought was very interesting. Also another favorite is the Lemon Batteries, it was messy but fun.  The Ace train project I also participated in as well which was totally new to me and yet fun to learn.  The Solar Parking lot is also another project and this one also caught my interest. The last one I remember doing in New Energy is the Motion Energy to Thermal Energy Experiment. For the Green Team all I can remember doing is doing a thing on phantom energy.
I have learned thing in this class and throughout this school year that I never thought that I could learn about. I remember learning that when cool and warm air collides together it creates wind. Learned the proses of coal and how it came to be to how it was mind and how it is used to create energy for our homes and businesses. It starts off with ancient plants that barred under ground after several thousands of years. With pressure on top of the plants it soon turns to peat after several more thousands of years and then after more years it turns to coal. We then drill into the ground and we then get the coal from the ground and bring it to an Energy plant. At the Energy plant we take the coal to heat up the water in the pipes which then turn to steam, that steam travels through the pipes into the main engine room. The main engine is made out of a magnate and copper. The steam then turns the motor which makes the copper and the magnate run up against each other. When they do this it creates electricity which goes to an electricity storage box then which travels through the power lines then to our houses that then we use. Wind turbines are similar. They have the same type of motor but instead of steam to move it and to create electricity wind are used. When the wind blows it turns the panels on the Wind Turbine which turns the motor and then electricity is created. I also found out that we use more none renewable energy than anything else when we are supposed to be using more renewable energy. Things like coal, oil, wood, and other things that are in that category cannot be re -used because once used it cannot be used again for it is no more. The sun and the wind on the other hand we can re-use. Learned about tank less water heaters, tromb walls, triple panned windows, and solar panels. Fun thing to learn was how pah-doh can conduct electricity and turn on a light bulb. How to make batteries from curacy fruits was also something that was fun to learn about. Learning how a train worked and how we can make it energy efficient was fun. One thing that I thought was the most fun to learn was about Solar panels and Solar cells. I learned about a boy who received a reward for what he found out. He found out that on each branch each leaf goes up the branch in a circular pattern so that they would not block each other to receive the energy from the sun. In return he got regular solar panel and made them into leaf shapes and put them on a metal tree and with the same blanch pattern. He then tested it out compared to a regular flat solar panel. He monitored them and in return the solar tree received more energy than the flat solar panels. Solar cells work like solar panels but they are rounder. So when the light bounces the solar cells can collect the energy from the sun from and direction. Learning all that I have this year has been really fun for me and has made me interested to learn more.
Sincerely,

Ashley Grajeda
That trip I went on to go to Washington DC, well this is the letter that got me to go.
